AREVA Mongol purchases meat for consumption from local herder families

January 12, 2017

The meat purchase from local herder families was organized by Aden Services, catering sub-contractor  of AREVA Mongol in December 1st, 5 and 6th, 2016 at the  Zuuvch-Ovoo camp with the support of Batbileg, SDLA officer. In total, 180 sheep and 20 cattle were bought. Considering the capacity of the slaughter house in Sainshand, this year the slaughtering and packaging were done in Sainshand and Ulaanbaatar. About 5,7 t of meat arrived at Zuuvch-Ovoo freezer. In order to meet all necessary hygiene requirements, about 40 samples were taken and sent to the analysis. The results of the Lead and Cadmium indicated a level lower than authorized for those heavy metals and certified safe for human consumption.

AREVA Mongol is convinced that a mining project has to contribute effectively to the development of the territories where it is located. Positive impacts occur through employment, the voluntary contribution of the company to local development projects as well as local purchasing, including meat purchasing.

AREVA Mongol started purchasing meat and milk directly from neighboring herder families in 2014. Five tons of meat was purchased from 13 families belonging to Ulaanbadrakh sum in October 2014. In 2015, 185 sheep and 19 cows in total were purchased from 23 herder families of Ulaanbadrakh sum and Zuunbayan bag of Sainshand sum.  This purchasing ensured the Dulaan Uul camp consumption for a period of six months, respectively.  The meat purchase was organized this year again as requested by local herders.

The team of AREVA Mongol is very happy to consume the local meat and meat products which are of very good taste and to contribute by giving financial support to the neighboring herder families. The company will always give an emphasis to continuing and developing more activities of this kind in the future.
