A Mongolian delegation visits our Bessines-sur-Gartempe site

September 11, 2013

On 3 and 4 September, the Bessines industrial site received a Mongolian delegation consisting of Mr Tegshbayar Norov, Director of the Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) – Mongolia's nuclear safety authority – Mr Khangai Tsogtsaikhan, NEA Director of External Relations, Mr Bilegsaikhan Janchiv, Director of MonAtom, a public company specializing in nuclear energy, and four Mongolian journalists of the written and broadcast media. The purpose of the visit was to acquaint the delegation, notably, with our Post-Mine activities and environmental protection policy in France, two topics that are of especial interest to the Mongolian authorities and the entire local population.

The delegation was able to visit our facilities and above all profit from the presence of our experts to ask questions concerning the field of uranium.

Bruno Schira, Site Director, opened the day's programme with a presentation of the site's activities. The visit of the SEPA provided the opportunity to focus on the work carried out on behalf of our subsidiaries Areva Mongol and Cogegobi. The Geoscience Division, with over 60 years of archives on mine sites around the world spread over 7000 linear metres and its rock thin-section laboratory containing several tens of rock samples collected on our sites, including Mongolia, greatly impressed our guests.

The program ended with a field visit in order to show the Group's commitment to minimizing its environmental footprint in the mining sector. The delegation was able to discover the old Belle Zane and Pay sites. The latter, a former mine site rehabilitated as a leisure centre, was the subject of a television documentary. The delegation, and more specifically the Director of the NEA, Mr Tegshbayar Norov, paid tribute to our expertise and our extensive experience in France.
